Preliminary foaming system

Preliminary foaming system is intended for expansion of the raw material (foaming polystyrene suspension, PSV/EPS grade, which is white granules with a size of 0.4–3.2 mm) into foamed balls of a size of 3–15 mm. Foaming is performed by feeding saturated steam into the pre-expander.

Under the influence of steam, PSV / EPS granules begin to expand and increase in size due to the gas-forming substance contained inside - pentane. By adjusting the temperature and steam pressure in the pre-expander, you can influence the parameters of the future finished expanded foam sheets. Next, the granules are cooled and fed into the dryer to remove residual moisture and for partial stabilization. During the cooling, a negative pressure is formed inside the expanded foam granules, which is filled with air in the process of maturing.

To increase the productivity of the system, a dispensing unit is used, which virtually eliminates human involvement in the expansion process. The worker only controls the availability and consumption of raw materials in the hopper, as well as the quality of the finished styrofoam crumbs. To achieve a density of less than 12.5 kg / m3, a secondary expansion unit is used, which allows loading of the foamed polystyrene crumbs into the pre-expander 2-3 times until the required density is obtained.

It is important to remember that a certain amount of forming gas (pentane) must be retained inside the polystyrene crumbs, which is necessary for the final sintering of the balls into the finished expanded foam block. In order to ensure uninterrupted operation of devices and units, pneumatic conveying fans are used, equipped with a special impeller, the design of which allows to avoid deformation of foamed granules.
